The FSC label provides the link between responsible production and consumption, enabling the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions. The Forest Stewardship Council, shortened to “FSC” is a non-governmental and non-profit organization that endorses the responsible management of forests around the world. It was established in 1993 in response to alarms over global deforestation. The Forest Stewardship Council is a membership organization with a governance structure based on involvement, democracy, fairness and transparency. It is a unique forum where participants from around the world meet and, through consensus-based multi-stakeholder processes, define essential social and environmental criteria for global forest management.
